“Simply put, the entire built structure around us is design. Design in the proper sense of the term has a complicated relationship with function. The concept of whether or not a well-designed object should function is one that is open to debate. In my belief good design must function. Function means to communicate. Although this is not the strictest definition the ability of our objects to communicate is very important. Great objects communicate their function. A prime example of such an iconic design that communicates effectively is scissors. Scissors represent the greatest relationship of function and form. If more people understood the communicative power innate in objects then they would embrace design more passionately.”
